This song was written by Lexi Spence and Emmanuel Sarahan in January 2025, during a challenging period in Lexi’s life. She was facing a difficult decision—whether to prioritize her mental health and overall well-being or remain at a workplace she had been loyal to since 2014.
January also marked a deeply personal milestone for Lexi, the anniversary of her bone marrow transplant. This year marked 14 years cancer-free—a reminder of what truly matters to her: health, authenticity, and living a life aligned with her values.
At the same time, a dear friend, Verma, was battling breast cancer and navigating the weight of depression and anxiety. Lexi knew these struggles all too well and gave her inspiration to write this song. Drawing from her own experience with cancer and mental health, she reflected on the strength it takes to move through such times—and the message she wished she could have shared with both her friend and her 15-year-old self. That message became the heart of this song.
The lyrics and melody came to Lexi in just 20 minutes. She turned to Emmanuel to help bring the music to life, and together they shaped the arrangement and added the finishing touches. Two months later, they recorded their first single with the help of close friends: Noah Chee, who played keys; Edward Conn, who engineered the session; and Noah Yates, who handled mixing and mastering. The result captured not only a moment in time, but a deeply personal journey of resilience, reflection, and healing.
The song is also a reminder to Lexi—a reminder to listen to her own voice, to honor her story, and to never forget the strength it takes to choose herself.
